ABQ Knitbloggers and a little somethin' that's been buggin' me.

posted Wed, 01/25/06

Last night was Knit Night, and of course the girls cheered me right up.  And I also started to realize how many Albuquerque knit bloggers there are...these are just the ones I know about!  The Duke City Fix had a mini article about two of the MANY local knit groups.

A Woman Obsessed - Jenny
Jeannie's Hands at Work - Jeannie (duh!)
The Adventures of an Aussie Girl in Albuquerque (lord Rebecca, your title is long!)
Wearing Black in New Mexico - Beverly
Little Hedgehog - Noelle
Little Ribbits - Heather, where are you? We haven't seen you in forever!
Knitters Not Quitters - Erin (whom I haven't yet met)
Scout's Knitted Swag - "Scout"
Strange Little Mama - SLM - haven't met you yet!
The Frayed Knot - Ramona - nope, haven't met her either!
Knit 'n Dive - Beth - I think I emailed Beth way back when.

And me, of course!  I am sure I am missing a whole bunch, but that is what I can come up with at the moment - if I left you out, please tell me!

**edited: I knew I was forgetting some and didn't know others!
Moo Kitty Knitting - Laurie (haven't met her either!)
Adam Knits - Adam (WOO-HOO Guy with needles! - haven't met him, either)

Here was a small selection of Knit Night's attendees:

From L-to-R: Jeannie, Lynn, Rebecca, and Judy. Not pictured: me, Shaila, Alison, Sarah.  Notice there are two socks being made, and neither are Jaywalkers!  See you next week, girls! I am so glad our group meets every week.  Tuesday is always fun.

And this has been bugging me...and perhaps I am crazy, but humor me for a second.

What is the plural of yarn? I have seen many a knitblogger refer to plural yarn as 'yarns', and I am not sure why, but this usage sends an evil shiver up my spine....  I always use the plural for the unit of yarn: skeinS, ballS, bagS, but never yarnS.  Now, I am no grammar queen, and on this here blog my writin' tends to be fast and loose.  Ending with a preposition? Sure!  Simulated western twang? You bet!  But put an 's' at the end of yarn and I am reduced to shuddering like a Nineteenth-century New England school marm.

Since the plural of sheep is 'sheep', shouldn't the plural of yarn be 'yarn'?

And yes, I couldn't sleep because of this....helped along nicely by a Bubble Tea at 9pm.  (And P. couldn't sleep the rest of the night because I snored so loudly he had to sleep on the couch.  Hi Dad!)

Right. My thoughts for you. enjoy!

I wish I could make it to your group, but the timeframe is almost always unworkable for me! However, I'm trying to organize a weekend getaway for all the ABQ knitters to Taos! Talk to your group & email me if you are interested!

Hmm, you are right. I can't remember ever saying yarns, but that doesn't mean I haven't. But I think it's yarn, no s. That's what seems right to me. But who am I to say. Just insert Southern Indiana twang here, and it ain't at all the Southern twang you find south of our borders. But people from the Nawth just don't seem to think so.

You will make a wonderful Jewish Mother some day. My advice, wait, a long time!!!
