Another bout of Meme is going around.

posted Mon, 08/01/05

Thanks for all the lovely comments about Cable Eight. I do love it, but I think I will have to wait for it to cool down a bit here. Too warm for chunky cables!  I was tagged....and since I am starting work on Christmas presents now (not to make you feel bad) here is the latest meme.

10 years ago...The summer before my senior year in college.  I was finishing up my internship at the Whitney Museum of American Art completly entranced with the art world and all it had to offer.  I was looking forward to my senior year at a liberal women's college in Massachusetts. I was young! I was naive!  I would be knitting secretly in my dorm room that winter.  I had met P. the year before in England.

5 years ago...this weekend I was packing up my bags to see P. for the first time in six years.  It was supposed to be a breezy and fun vacation in New Mexico and Utah.  Breezy! Fun! How did it happen that cupid not only caught up with me (six years late) but hog-tied me like a bum steer.

1 year ago...I was still stunned that P. had proposed to me at a National Park named after a great-great grandfather.  In western Kansas.

Yesterday... I worked on Xmas presents....and it was still July!

Today... I have a doctor's appointment.  Must not forget. Made the appointment in February!

Tomorrow... is Knit Night! Hurrah!

5 snacks I enjoy... Good n' Plenty candies, Halvah, Jaxx cheez puffs (are these available outside of the NYC metro area? I can't find them out here!), blueberries, necco wafers.  (and root beer barrels...but that makes six...maybe I should delete the blueberries?)

5 bands/singers that I like... Oh Lord. I am so out of the loop.  I like the Eyeliners, local Albuquerque band - punk grrl rock. Francoise Hardy, 60s French pop (can you believe how beautiful she is?).  Joanna Newsom and her crazy voice and indie harp.  Rosie Thomas, sweet introspective singer.  And to stay on the same theme, Belle and Sebastian, which can make me a little maudlin.  I am not saying the music is maudlin, but I seem to revert to high school weepiness at a drop of a hat after listening to too much BaS.

Things I would do with $100,000,000... My goodness. What WOULDN'T I do?  Let's see. 1) Give 10M (hah, that is just amusing to write) to the organization I work for so they could continue their good arty mission without worrying about cash flow. 2) Open a yarn shop and enjoy yarn all day  3) buy a house in Arroyo Seco, north of Taos, New Mexico. 4) buy a house in the Adirondacks 4) give out scholarships....lots of them.  Education and the means to afford it are probably the most important head-starts that kids can get.  And then invest the rest.  P? You could retire immediately and become a park ranger.  And we could have a kick-ass honeymoon next summer!

5 locations I'd like to run away to... Adirondack mountains, New York. Vancouver, Canada. Newfoundland.  England.  New Zealand.

5 bad habits I have... I have no willpower. None. For many things.  Let's see. What else?  I get anxious really easily, is that a bad habit?  I am a slob - a leave a trail of chaos in my wake.  I love to procrastinate. Love it love it love it.  I am bad at returning phone calls. (Is that a bad habit, or like the McDonald's commercial says, is that just rude?)

5 things I like doing...Well, duh. Knitting, and now spinning.  Hiking with P. Snow-shoeing with Deb and Jenny. (Don't laugh Jenny, it WAS TOO fun.)  Snowboarding on really powdery snow. Walking in the Adirondacks.

5 things I would never wear....
1. A tube top. Girls my size usually don't unless they are In the Business if you know what I mean. *wink wink*.

2. I have to second Cathi's Scrunchie. I made them in middle school. Hence, I should not willingly wear them as an adult.

3. Keds - don't ask. It has to do with the popular-cheerleader thing in middle school....that I was not.

4. Z. Cavariccis.  How many of you remember THOSE fashion statements?  Didn't own a pair. Never will.

5. Blonde. I am a brunette. I like it that way.

5 TV shows I like...Oh Lord. The Dukes of Hazzard, Charlie's Angels, Nova, Absolutely Fabulous, Sex and the City.

5 Movies I like....Crap.  Star Wars IV, The Right Stuff,  Ghostbusters (the first one only), Amalie, When Harry met Sally.

5 famous people I'd like to meet... Nuts. Can they be dead?  Karl Haas, Shelby Foote, (are these too obscure?), hunky George Best, (is he dead yet?), umm. okay. I am really stretching, so I will stop.

5 biggest joys of the moment...In no particular order...
1. Enjoying every moment I get with P.  He has been working so hard for the past 8 months, and any time that he has a free hour I can get with him.

2. Knitting - for bringing lots of great people into my life...like Jenny and the Lacy Libertines!

3. My relationship with my sister. We didn't used to get along.  Now I wished I lived so much closer than I do.

4. The idea of moving. Change. It is such a good thing.

5. Being comfortable with who I am. Yeah. It is cheesy. But it is true.

5 favorite toys...My early-happy-birthday Swift that I got last weekend.  My sonicare toothbrush, hurrah for dental hygene!  My ball winder from last Christmas.  My telescope that I don't use. (But I do too love it, P!)  My new laptop 'puter.

DONE!

I will pass this on to Jenny, 'cause I know she will answer it, and Joy, because I would love to hear from her.
