FO: Shop Sample February Baby Sweater

posted Fri, 07/17/09

I think this is my third February Baby Sweater on Two Needles by Elizabeth Zimmermann.  It never fails to impress.

february baby sweater
Photographed at Woven Art on the new baby mannequin.

Pattern: February: Baby Sweater on Two Needles, from Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac
Yarn: Mission Falls 1824 cotton, color 103 Pebble, 4 skeins. 84 yds each. Yarn available at Woven Art.
Needles: size 7 US
Gauge: ~4.5 spi
Modifications: I only made three buttonholes, and actually made the sweater a little shorter.  The baby mannequin here is the 3-6 month size. My guess is that this sweater is 6-9 months size.

I love how the Mission Falls 1824 cotton takes on the look of handspun with this sweater.  Like fresh-baked brown bread.  Wholesome and nourishing.  I am teaching a class at Woven Art on this baby sweater to help 'flesh-out' EZ's instructions since it can be a little harrowing for newer knitters.  I hope I get some students - I would love to introduce people to the wonder of EZ, our 'grande dame' of knitting.

I am on to another project for the shop now, and I am having a serious love-affair with the yarn.  Details to come!

Saw this on Ravelry and found your blog. I just love the cardigan made in Mission Falls 1824. Have never used this yarn but it looks great. Good job!

Do you happen to know what the chest measurement of this is? I loved how yours turned out so I bought some Mission Falls 1824 cotton from Woven Art and cast on, and I've got about 6 inches of body now and mine looks REALLY wide. I wasn't too worried about gauge because it'll fit the baby sometime (probably), but I'm kind of wondering if this is a little extreme.
