How is it that the first sock took three months to complete, while the second sock took one week? Isn't that the reverse of how socks are normally knit? Well, I suppose one explanation is that I started the first sock when I was packing up the house in Albuquerque in preparation for our cross-country move. Another could be that I had to rip out the first sock when I was more than halfway finished as it was too small for my muscular calves.
Pattern: Embossed Leaves Socks, IK Winter 2005
Yarn: Koigu KPPPM, 2 skeins: color 9707, purchased at Newbury Yarns, Boston
Needles: size 2 vintage aluminums
Modifications: Oh where to begin? Increased circumference by 8 stitches in the purl gutter (72 stitches in total), short row heel, and modified the toe decreasing pattern as my foot was suddenly too short (Size 7) for the original rows required, kitchener stitched toe.
Started: June 3, 2006
Finished: September 26, 2006
The yarn is a little busy for the beautiful embossed leaves. I really have to make a better attempt at matching yarn to go with these heavily patterned knits. I just wanted fall colored leaf socks. The short row heels came through again. I love you, short row heel!
Hmmm. What socks to go for next? Decisions, decisions.
Gorgeous- I think they look great.
Ohhhh, so pretty! And yeah, a lot of times the second sock goes faster for
me . . . especially when it's a pattern stitch of some sort -- I think
because I work out the bugs a bit and know more what I'm doing with the
second sock.
Nice socks, Meg! I love my embossed leaves, and i just think it's so funny
that you increased the purls around the calves and I had to decrease mine.
I am thinking of pomatomus (sp?) next. You?
At least even if it did take awhile, you did get them finished! I happen
to like the color you chose. They look great! Always nice to get those
long-suffering UFOs out of the way, right?
Love the socks! I'm currently working on the Hedera socks from knitty which
are coming along nicely and I'm thinking of trying the Lombard socks from
Magknits next. Looking forward to seeing what you choose next!
