The promise of fall and Rhinebeck had me reach for the single skein of rust colored Rowanspun aran I had in my stash. Ah! Tweed. There is nothing like it to brighten my day. This past weekend I knit up a hat and I can't wait for the weather to get cold enough for me to wear it. Wear it without overheating that is, because I wore the hat for half of Sunday - but had to wear a t-shirt and shorts to compensate.

Pattern: Diminishing Braids Hat, free online pattern, size large
Yarn: Rowanspun aran, purchased from Unwind, in Burbank CA
Needles: Clover 12" circular 8s, and five size 7 dpns
Modifications: I sped up the 'diminishing' part of the pattern as my head isn't very long. I knit the size large to give the hat more of a cloche appearance. The pattern also called for a ribbon to lace through the yo's. When I tried this I found the ribbon looked a little wimpy, so I dug out a small ball of hand-dyed lavender colored yarn I purchased at The Yarn Tree several years ago (no label) and made an i-cord approximately 40 inches long. I really like the color combination of the rust and the lavender.
Date started: 9/15/06
Date finished: 9/17/06
It felt great to get another skein out of the stash. Does the i-cord count as my first project for Zimmermania?
Love it!!! I am printing it off now. Must not cast-on!! Not until something
else gets finished.
Gosh, this is absolutely gorgeous, what an amazing pattern! Thanks for
sharing the link, I'll have to print it out and try my hands at it soonest
possible! I love the color you've been using for yours - very pretty!

Hi Meg,
I'm so happy to see that someone has finally made this hat! I happened to
find you through Grumperina, who linked to Siow Chin, who linked to this
post. I was thinking of starting a gallery for my hats - would you mind if
I put your image in it?
